Dynamically generate personalized documents in print or electronic formats
With Adobe® LiveCycle® Output ES software, you can generate, assemble, and deliver personalized documents in print or electronic formats such as contracts, welcome packages, quotations, or shipping labels. Merge data from back-end systems with XML-based document templates to generate documents in PDF, PDF/A, PostScript®, PCL, or Zebra label formats. Customize document packages by combining newly generated PDF files with existing files from document repositories. Or, convert PDF files to print or image file formats, and then route automatically to support unattended printing or archiving operations. Personalized documents improve the quality and accuracy of communications with customers, partners, or suppliers while reducing the demand on employees to manually compile and deliver documents.

Key capabilities
Streamline template creation and process management
LiveCycle Workbench ES includes award-winning LiveCycle Designer ES to provide intuitive, graphical design capabilities that make it easy to design and deploy templates without deep technical knowledge. LiveCycle Designer ES provides robust layout specifications and features, allowing developers to create templates with layouts that dynamically adjust when merged with XML data. This helps ensure that documents accommodate the merged data content and volume by including or excluding design elements, growing to create space for data and paginating automatically.
LiveCycle Workbench ES makes it easy for development teams to work collaboratively, providing intuitive tools to define process flows, lay out templates, and bind data to back-end systems. Designed to support complex enterprise operations, it allows developers to preview layouts electronically or generate test prints. It also simplifies the creation and maintenance of large collections of templates or fragments, storing them in the LiveCycle ES repository until they are ready to be packaged and delivered for production. Fragments are reusable components such as a logo or address blocks used on multiple templates. Any time a fragment is updated, the templates that reference it are automatically updated as well.
Customize for device-specific requirements
LiveCycle Output ES provides the ability to leverage and control the specific capabilities of the printers you use to generate printed documents. Using the Device Profile Editor, you can edit existing device profiles (XDC files), create new ones, and map media to specific paper trays. Using LiveCycle Designer ES, you can generate templates that logically link document layout to printer capabilities, including duplex printing, selection of input and output paper trays, the use of resident fonts, stapling, and copying. By incorporating the layout and print control features into a business process, documents created with these features can be printed in a variety of formats with a high degree of control.
Support on-demand or batch job requirements
LiveCycle Output ES is designed to meet the demands of enterprise applications. You can generate single documents, each from specific LiveCycle Designer ES templates, a batch of documents from a specific template, or a document package that uses multiple LiveCycle Designer ES templates. You can produce companion metadata files for document integration and statistics. For example, metadata from an incoming XML file, such as fax or account numbers or the number of pages in a document, can be captured at runtime. This information can be integrated into generated documents or delivered as companion files to integrate with Fax and Archive services or to support a statistical analysis of document sets produced.
Make the most out of PDF files from your document repository
LiveCycle Output ES makes it easy to assemble, disassemble, and manipulate PDF documents. Combine newly created PDF documents with files or pages stored in your document repository to create a single PDF package. You can include cohesive pagination, indexing, resizing, headers and footers, or tables of contents. You can also insert or delete individual pages, all according to your publishing requirements. When LiveCycle Output ES is integrated with LiveCycle Forms ES, you can include interactive forms as part of the PDF document package. For example, a mortgage welcome kit might contain numerous sections including a final contract, a brochure encouraging the purchase of additional services, and an interactive form to make it easy for the customer to express interest in those additional services.
LiveCycle Output ES also lets you set up unattended printing or archiving operations. Convert PDF files to PostScript files for direct server-based printing, archive PDF files directly, or convert PDF files to TIFF before routing to a document repository or archive. You can also convert interactive PDF forms (fillable forms) to final-version PDF forms (filled information is frozen, and the document is no longer interactive).
Protect electronic documents inside and outside the firewall
LiveCycle Output ES lets you apply basic security settings restricting users’ ability to print, copy, modify, or extract content from a document to control how users interact with PDF documents. For advanced security, deploy LiveCycle Rights Management ES or LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES in concert with LiveCycle Output ES. Applying rights management to a document lets users set or dynamically change policies for access control, revocation, revision control, and audit trails. Digital signatures can be used in conjunction with products from leading security vendors to issue certified documents that can be validated by anyone using free Adobe Reader or to generate document packages that are ready to be signed.
How it works
Step 1. Design templates
Create an intelligent document template using Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES software , which is included with Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES software. Import existing PDF, Word, or other document templates. Or create new templates in a WYSIWYG environment.
Step 2. Manage templates
Manage XML templates and template fragments through the central repository provided with Adobe LiveCycle ES Foundation, or leverage your existing ECM environment.
Step 3. Orchestrate multistep processes
With LiveCycle Workbench ES, you can visually build end-to-end processes including the document generation, assembly, encryption services, and delivery services in Adobe LiveCycle Output ES software. You can also extend your process to include other Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite solution components such as Adobe LiveCycle Forms ES, Adobe Digital Signatures ES, or Adobe Rights Management ES software.
Step 4. Generate and assemble documents
Merge XML templates with data from back-end systems to generate documents in PDF, PostScript, PCL, or Zebra label formats. New PDF documents can be combined with existing PDF files or pages to create customized document packages, including interactive PDF forms created with LiveCycle Forms ES.
Step 5. Protect documents
Automatically encrypt electronic documents or apply document usage controls.
Step 6. Deliver
Generate customized documents in multiple formats for delivery across many channels, including print, fax, e-mail, and web. Customer, partners, and suppliers can engage with electronic documents easily using ubiquitous Adobe Reader® software.
