MANAGEMENT TEAM

Phil Copeland
Managing Director |
Philip has over 20 years experience in enterprise computing, application architecture & development, software sales and distribution in both Australia and the United States.
He began his career in the computing industry in Australia in 1983 distributing, selling and supporting AutoCAD (1.4 on NEC APC3's with CPM) one of the first PC based Computer Aided Drafting Systems. During this time AutoCAD rose to become the leading CAD system and AutoDesk one of the largest and most successful software companies in the world.
In 1987 he joined one of the largest AEC firms in Asia Pacific to manage their Information Technology division. During this time Philip led the development of SpaceTek - a facility planning and management application that was one of the world's first commercial Client Server computing applications (originally running under Windows 2.0).
In 1990 Philip established Jarrah Technologies in Sydney to leverage the opportunities emerging in Client Server computing. Jarrah quickly became the leading vendor of Client Server application development tools, education and specialist consulting services throughout Australia. The company serviced a large number of Australia's blue chip corporate and government organisations. As CEO, Philip played a hand's on role in driving product sales and building and delivering the service's offered by the firm. Jarrah represented and sold products from Gupta Technologies, Logic Works, Pinnacle Publishing and Bits per Second.
At Jarrah, he also conceived and developed TeamWindows, a repository based Team Programming product. TeamWindows was incorporated into Gupta Technologies SQLWindows product under a world wide distribution agreement. In 1994 SQLWindows (incorporating TeamWindows) was awarded Byte Magazines Application Development tool of the year.
In 1995 Philip accepted an offer by Boston based distributed computing vendor Open Environment Corporation to acquire Jarrah Technologies. Shortly after the sale Philip was appointed CEO of Open Environment Corporation and relocated to Boston, MA where he oversaw the acquisition of OEC by Borland International.
After a brief period sailing the east coast of Australia with his family, he spent eighteen months consulting with National Rail of Australia as Technical Architect, designing and implementing a mission critical Java / CORBA based sales & billing application. During this time Mr. Copeland developed a sophisticated Java Pattern workbench and supporting framework to deliver highly scalable eBusiness applications incorporating advanced performance, application management and security facilities.
In 1999 Philip co-founded SpotOn Inc, a Californian based, venture backed Internet Company. SpotOn's products and services enabled corporations to leverage the Internet to build and deliver compelling multimedia sales and marketing presentations online. The company quickly established a large and loyal customer base but due to the sharp downturn in Capital Markets and the subsequent difficulty in securing funding the business was wound down.
Philip is a Venture Partner with leading Australian Venture Capital firm Allen & Buckeridge. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from University of New South Wales.
Philip is a proven entrepreneur, IT Executive and highly skilled technologist that brings to Avoka Technologies a wealth of business experience combined with in-depth technical knowledge and understanding of the IT industry.

Howard Treisman
Technical Director |
Howard has been active in the IT industry for over 18 years. During this time, he has held both technical and managerial positions. He has a deep understanding of technology, but melds that with an appreciation of product, branding, and the importance of people at all levels of an enterprise.
Howard's career has closely followed the rise of dominant cutting-edge technologies:
After completing a Masters degree in Software Engineering in the mid 80's, he started his career writing C code for telecommunications and embedded systems. In the early nineties, Howard rode the 4GL wave, and was responsible both technical and managerial leadership for developing a number of world-class products while at Jarrah Technologies, in Sydney Australia. These products were a key part of Gupta's (now Centura) SQLWindows Enterprise product, which was shipped to 4GL developers world-wide.
In the mid nineties, Howard embraced the distributed computing revolution, and was responsible for building a distributed application management system for Open Environment Corporation, which was then acquired by Borland/Visigenic. In the course of working for Borland, Howard accepted a position at Borland's development centre in Silicon Valley as director of engineering. While at Borland, Howard built and managed the team that built Borland's award-winning J2EE compliant Application Server. There he oversaw the on-time delivery of the first two releases of this product. During this phase he managed several geographically disperse teams of thirty engineers, as well as managing relationships with other teams within Borland.
In the dot-com boom of the late nineties, Howard took the position of VP of User and Product Management at SpotOn, an eCollateral web service company. In this role he gained valuable experience of the startup mentality, guerrilla marketing, the 80:20 rule, and embracing rapid change.
In 2001, Howard returned to Australia and joined Bullant, where he managed a team of 17 engineers building the client component of Bullant's integrated application delivery engine.
Howard has a Master of Science in Software Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Howard is a proven technologist and leader, who brings to Avoka Technologies a wealth of experience in designing and delivering solutions built around cutting edge technologies.
