AS CEO and co-founder of Avoka, Phil is responsible for the company’s business strategy and worldwide operations. In the early years of Avoka Phil created then led the development of the Engagement Server (Transaction Manager) at the center of Avoka Transact. In the early 90’s, Phil was a pioneer in the Client Server Computing industry – founding Jarrah Technologies and developing TeamWindows – a repository based team programming solution that was incorporated in Gupta Technologies SQLWindows product (winning Byte Magazine’s Application Tool of the Year). Phil became CEO of Open Environment Corporation (NASDAQ: Open) after it acquired Jarrah until Open was acquired by Borland.
As CKO and co-founder of Avoka, Howard is focused on strategic product management, including market analysis and differentiation, product roadmap, competitive intelligence, partner solutions, and product marketing communication. Howard ensures the Avoka product and platform meet customer requirements and is a market-leading technology. Prior to joining Avoka, Howard was Engineering Manager at Jarrah Technologies, the leading vendor of Client Server application development tools throughout Australia. Later, as Engineering Manager for Open Environment Corporation, Howard embraced the distributed computing revolution, and was responsible for building a distributed application management system.
In 2002 Philip Copeland and Howard Treisman decided they were ready to create their next great company. The two entrepreneurs had worked together before and were ready to solve a new, difficult problem. While doing their research they realized financial institutions and government agencies were spending billions of dollars on strategic digital transformations. These organizations had been forced to build tailor-made applications to put key functions online – functions such as account opening, loan and credit card applications or applying for a government license or service. These projects are high risk, take many months or years to deliver, exceed budget estimates, and are inflexible in changing markets.Copeland and Treisman built Avoka to solve that problem. They built a cloud-based platform, Avoka Transact, which enables organizations to assemble these applications on the Avoka platform without intensive IT development while slashing time, cost and risk. Once built, the application owner can continuously optimize and expand to additional projects quickly and easily.Avoka’s focus has been on creating a solution that empowers clients to make outstanding customer experiences. The success of Avoka Transact is in the simplicity it provides without losing any functionality.
Malcolm is responsible for leading the Product Engineering Group in building Avoka Transact. With a software engineering career spanning more than 25 years, Malcolm has worked for leading global companies including Thales, Avaya, Zurich, and Macquarie Bank building mission critical systems for Defence, Telecommunications and Finance. Malcolm is a keen technologist involved in open source development, founding the Apache Click project and is an emeritus VP of the Apache Software Foundation. As CTO, Malcolm also focuses on strategic thought leadership. He thinks about how the coming waves of technological innovation will disrupt our industry and society, and how Avoka’s customers can harness these innovations.
As Avoka’s CXO, Derek’s focus is on understanding what best practice is for sales and service transactions like credit card applications, loan origination, account opening, and government license applications. He ensures that the Avoka Transact engagement platform can deliver best practice and is always helping clients engage their customers with great multi-channel customer experiences based on these best practices.
As CCO, Stephen manages the commercial relationships with our customers, but also oversees our financial and administration teams and finally helps manage our investor relations. Prior to joining Avoka, Stephen co-founded and was COO of Quickcomm, a highly successful enterprise software company specializing in telecommunications management software. After building an impressive corporate and government customer base in Australia and the United States, the company moved its headquarters to New York City in 2005.Ranked by Gartner as one of the top three global players in its space, the company was later acquired by Vodaphone Plc.
Don builds and leads worldwide marketing at Avoka. He has a successful 25 year record of growing technology businesses in marketing, operations, and sales management, particularly with early stage and high growth companies. Prior to Avoka, Don was CMO and COO at Confio Software, acquired by Solar Winds, where he led the creation of the marketing-sales ‘factory’ from the earliest stages, resulting in repeated 70% annual growth in the latter years of the company’s 10 year life. Prior to that, he launched software companies Antepo (acquired by Adobe) as VP of Marketing, and grew Jabber (acquired by Cisco) during its early years.
Steve is responsible for Avoka’s product roadmap and direction. His passion is to build and enhance products to solve problems for customers that drive their ability to innovate and execute forward to better business outcomes. Prior to joining Avoka, Steve was the Chief Product Owner at Rally Software which had a successful IPO in 2013 and was then acquired by CA Technologies in 2015 for $480M. At CA, Steve was the VP of Product Management for CA Agile Central. During his career at Rally/CA Technologies, Steve led key scaled agile transformations and worked with the company’s global customers to realize the benefits of enterprise agile and modern product management.
Matt is responsible for the financial, taxation and corporate affairs of the company. He provides advice, insight and financial analysis to support the senior leadership team to deliver Avoka’s business strategy. Matt is a senior finance executive with over 15 years’ experience as a Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining Avoka, Matt worked at KPMG as a Director in the M&A and corporate strategy space leading acquisitions, divestments, and capital market transactions across a diverse range of industries and international markets including Australia, Asia, Europe and the US.
David has a wealth of experience in the financial services industry having spent the last 17+ years leading teams that developed, sold and implemented enterprise security, online banking and omni-channel customer engagement solutions for some of the world’s largest financial institutions and Fintech innovators. David has experience building long term relationships across multiple lines of business including retail, cards, small business and wealth. During his eight years at Yodlee, David helped the company grow revenue from $30M to $110M+ enabling an IPO in 2014 and acquisition by Envestnet in 2015 for $660M.
Richard has 20 years’ experience in the IT industry, and previously worked for Adobe in a Professional Services management role. In this position Richard was responsible for driving consulting around the Adobe Enterprise product set across a variety of vertical sectors including Media, Government and Financial Services. During this period, he was responsible for some of the largest and most successful Adobe Consulting projects and played a key role in delivering customer satisfaction for some of Adobe’s most important enterprise customers.
Christian is responsible for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at Avoka. Christian has held leadership positions at several software-as-a-service companies where he built and managed the organization, created and executed the go-to-market plan, and was responsible for sales enablement and customer acquisition. He has over 20 years of experience in the enterprise software industry.
Will began his career in the military reaching the rank of Major in the Special Forces. His experience in various military appointments and leadership positions was later supplemented by global sales experience. He worked for Smith Detection, the leading supplier of aviation threat detection equipment, and was General Manager of Sales and Marketing with Sagem Sécurité (now Morpho) before moving to Avoka as National Manager. He also gained start-up expertise working as a Sales Manager with Connexxion Solutions.
Adrian is responsible for managing global client operations and support, ensuring reliable cloud operations and responsive client assistance. He has 25 years’ experience growing software companies from startup in leadership roles covering development, services, operations and marketing. Prior to Avoka he was UK Technical Director for Tower Technology, an Australian startup that was acquired by Vignette for US$125M in 2004.
Dave is responsible for Avoka professional services, support, training, customer success and partner enablement operations. His mission is to ensure that our customers can successfully deploy and adopt our solutions while accelerating time to value. Previously, Mr. Canelis was VP of Global Services at Tableau Software, and has held executive positions at leading edge technology companies including ServiceSource, WebTrends, Serena Software, and Oracle.
